SAN MARCOS, CA

With over 290 acres of parkland for you to recreate in, San Marcos really lives up to its nickname “San Parkos”. With our 24 community parks, 13 neighborhood parks, and 3 recreation centers San Marcos is the perfect destination/location for community gatherings, outdoor sports, or a family picnic. The City’s extensive and growing 70 mile trail network is great for hiking, biking, running and equestrian use. San Marcos has a great community of families, college-aged students and senior citizens. It really appeals to all ages.

San Marcos is nestled behind Encinitas and Vista and is just 12 miles east of the coast. Like most of coastal San Diego County, cool overcast from the Pacific is common in May and June (“May gray”, “June gloom”). July through September are usually the warmest months, although hot and dry Santa Ana winds can strike any month (most commonly August) and raise risks of wildfires.

San Marcos offers 2 different colleges; Palomar Community College and Cal State University San Marcos. Both colleges are accessible by Sprinter train that runs from Oceanside to Escondido. Lake San Marcos is an unincorporated area of San Diego County, surrounded by the City of San Marcos. It is a resort-based community surrounding the Lake San Marcos reservoir. An illuminated cross, which stands on a hill above Lake San Marcos and is visible at night from many parts of the city, has been a community landmark for decades.
